The thing this actually most reminds me of is the Iraqi army versus ISIS. It seems like secular forces in the Middle East are generally just not that competent, and that only Islamist ideology can motivate Arabs to be decent soldiers.

Seems Russia are just behaving logically, fighting delaying actions where feasible and withdrawing as necessary, with the main objective of holding the Ukrainians off for a few weeks until the rains start and mobilized forces start to move in.

The point is that the entire professional combat and support forces currently there will be able to go on the offensive. While reservist combat and support troops defend the current lines. Try being more honest and less of an anti-Russian lemming.

The point is that even if most of those troops are behind the lines and just sit there, or make up a defensive line. That free sup the entire professional experienced force currently in Ukraine to go on the offensive.

The inability of the sort of people who reee "Russia is losing!!!" in the comments to these videos to see the bigger strategic situation is hilarious. The reason the idiot Ukrainians sacrifice thousands of men for towns they were going to lose anyway and that aren't even that important is to keep idiots like you on their side happy, media warfare. In reality what decides modern all out wars is industrial and manpower resources, Russia has vastly more than Ukraine and will therefore win as long as it is committed to do so. Withdrawing from one town as part of a delaying action while they mobilize hundreds of thousands of men means absolutely nothing. Ukraine is taking vast losses of men and equipment to take territory that will make no meaningful difference to the outcome of the war.

What I find hilarious in all this discussion about how great "Ukraine" is performing, is that of course, it isn't Ukraine at all. This is American and European command, intelligence, weapons, money etc. Ukraine, supposedly battling for "sovereignty", barely exists as a country any more. If Western support stopped it would literally collapse with a few weeks. They can't even pay their own government salaries lol.

The comment about soldiers paying for stuff, makes me think that an even better way to wipe out corruption would be for each soldier (or maybe small unit, so there's accountability from leaders to their men) to purchase their own equipment via a direct grant..

Funny how the ethnic imprint of America is so heavily just "British". Most white Americans today dramatically underestimate their degree of British ancestry. The clever thing as you say, is that this is actually redistributing a lot of Russia's wealth from oil etc into the pockets of the working class and away from the elites who siphon it off through corruption. Much better putting money into the pockets of patriotic working class men all over the country, than into 10 layers of bureaucracy and corruption that is supposed to filter down to "local projects" supposedly meant to help people in those areas. Just like WW2 helped America build up a strong blue collar middle class, you might see something similar happen in Russia.

Makes me think that in modern assaults like this they should just use ultra-light dune buggy type vehicles that can carry 3 or so infantry in each one and do 90+ MPH. You'd have more trouble stopping ten of those than 30 infantry on foot, a tank and an APC.
