"the current system at the moment incentivizes people to spend their money now rather than save it for the future, so therefore we have this rampant consumer based economy that requires people to just constantly spend, and that's environmentally very damaging" - this is a really great point when it comes to the idea that "deflation is bad because it discourages spending" - well maybe that's actually a good thing, maybe an environment where people think ""my money will be worth more in two years, so maybe I'll keep my older car a bit longer amd by a new one then" and allocate resources more carefully is a good thing? Maybe a deflationary economic system would mean less but better investment?

  10. The problem is WEAK leadership. Of course it's more a problem of left than right, because the technochratic, declinist bureaucracy is centre left, but both sides are to blame. The clever approach would be to start by slashing the number of people and organizations employed by the state WITHOUT cutting spending. This completely defuses the normal "you're taking stuff away from people", "Tory cuts" argument, because you can say "no, actually I'm making sure more money gets to people, because less of it is being creamed off by waste and bureaucrats." Then once you have far fewer vested interests, you can start to actually rationalize public spending and redirect/increase/decrease as necessary.

I mean, in all honesty, do you really think that anyone in a Western country running a multinational corporation is going to build dangerous nuclear reactors unless the government regulates them? The simple fact is that the entire idea of "regulation" was made up relatively recently and before that for all of recorded history, we "regulated" negligent conduct through civil and criminal liability. Knowing that the CEO goes to jail and the company goes bankrupt if there's a nuclear disaster through negligence is all the "regulation" you need.

  15. It's funny isn't it? This is so obvious that random youtube commenters all get it, yet our governing elites don't? Especially the Tories should be focused on creating more Tory voters, by giving as many people as possible a stake in the future and stability. It's insane to serve elderly homeowners (a declining voter base) and international capital (can't actually voter for you), at the expense of ambitious young people (the future voters you need). Implement policies to create more people owning property, more successful small business people, more stable, self employed people, and redirect resources of the state to those who are more naturally conservative (police, armed forces, border force etc), and "ta-da" you have yourself a winning electroal coalition. And on the flipside less people for the opposing coalition (students, immigrants, state schools teachers and academic and other left wing government jobs, welfare claimants etc)
