People love talking about the "evils of Apartheid", but the simple fact is that if an elite that makes up 5% of a country's population, but is entirely responsible for making it into a first world nation, hands over power to a majoritarian democracy, this was always going to be the consequence. However immoral apartheid was, it was entirely necessary to maintain South Africa at the level of development it was at. Yes it wasn't equal, but black people had the highest standard of living in Africa (and it would have been even higher by now), there's a reason this supposedly terrible regime had to build an electrified border fence, not to keep people in, but to keep illegal immigrants from other African countries out.

  2.  @Urrelles  It could have been phased out slowly. A lot of what we're told about it is lies. White people are painted as evil for making themselves 100 times better off, and black people only 10 times better off. Nelson Mandela was allowed to become a trained, qualified lawyer in South Africa. If white people had maintained political control but allowed increasing societal participation by capable blacks, and continued to use their competence in government, science, business and policing to improve conditions for the general black population, South Africa todasy would be vastly better off in every way except for MUH VOTE.
