Two Polish guys made two prototype bike engines recently and those are working for tens of thousands kms on the road, not counting very significant amount of stationary tests. Their system is even simpler than what you can see on the animation you showed. They have a company called OHRV Motorcycle Engines (over head rotary valve), so you might be interested in contacting them. The sealing was a problem, but some other Polish company, which specialized in coatings and stuff, supposedly solved it (nitrated surfaces, high temperature o-rings, oil cooled head). All I know is that it took about 10 years of development and that those engines do work. Amazingly!
