I really want to know how the Ogata Fuji came into existence. My guess is a 87 year old, slightly senile elder had the idea and nobody dared to say anything against the senior, so they build it.

@LAK_770 I suggest you search for the video titled "56 High Speed Rail Links We Should've Built Already" btw.: If you can build car Highways, you surely can build train lines. If High speed is too expensive, then conventional 100mph can still be very good connectors. Just for example I picked 2 towns randomly from google maps: Charleston and Columbia in South Carolina. I don't know anything about these, as I am German. Looked like medium big towns, so here we go: Distance 120 miles, one 150K/800K inhabitants (city/area), the other 163K/830K people. I don't think you will find a single city pair in Germany with these metrics that hasn't at least a 140km/h connection between them with hourly (or better) service, even in very rural areas.

However bad it was it could have been magnitudes worse if reactor 3 (the one with plutonium) had also exploded. Worst case the rain would have gone down over Tokyo (that is the most often wind direction). Meaning you would have had to evacuate 35 million people from the economic and political centre of the county. Not really doable. Also it would have cut the main island in halves, since it would be too dangerous to cross the central region. If you inhale it, Polonium can kill you with an amount that is effectivly too small to see.
