It doesn't need to be na hikki for that. Practically all over the world people who are not breaking their back for others in exchange for money ("working") are seen in a very bad light. Even though a lot of that work is just Bullshit - producing things that no one needs, which then need to be sold with a lot of annoying ads to people who don't have the time to think about those ads because they have to work to get the money for the gadgets that they think would fill their empty, work-driven life with meaning.

Yes. It's like those traditional feet bindings on Chinese women. They make cute feet and obedient women. The women may not be able to ever walk properly and it hurts the whole life, but we just need to accept it, don't try to "rescue" them and not be so ethnocentric, right?

If she said she encouraged her young brother to any sports as professional, would it depress you in the same way? Because professional sport is more dangerous than porn, similar career length and similar prospects after the carreer - in both cases you didn't learn anything that can be used again. Similar for what she does. Do you also feel depressed for an actor if you hear they play a murderer? Also if she is miserable later in your life it's only because of people like you who think of being a porn actress is something morally dirty.

Wow, that is a brutal hit to the actresses. But I am nor surprised after hearing of the details. From a business perspective, a production that can be made unsellable after all costs have been paid is a no-go. I could maybe understand if there was a month before and after for first time actresses (or those joining an agency with a long-term contract for their first work there), but everything else is just undoable for the company. btw. does that law only apply to "hard-core" or also the "gravure idol" films without private parts?

@LukeHartman-ro7hl There are many thigs in every culture that are objectivly bad and should be changed for that society to be better. And it's also generally easier to see that from outside because you are not so used to it.

For me it was Elder Scrolls. I wanted to understand what was written there. I started as a very bad English student to having it my main subject at the end of school.

It's a problem in all western democracies that the main electorate is 50+. Just look at the generational gap between the youth and "leaders" in regards to climate change. It's literally incomprehensible for the other side.

@BA-ff3xq No, that is not true. For example in Germany after WWII until the 80s politicians would need to do the "Ochsentour" - Ox tour. That meant that you started right at the bottom, worked hard and would then be put to election on the city level. Work hard, get put one level above and so on. That is how most of the politicians in that time were grown. It not only meant a connection to the people from the lowest level on, but it also meant that normal workers would be on the ballot (not unskilled, they very seldom made it, but learned workers and mini business owners were more than half of the German parliament). Today is very different, ox tour is a rarity and the most represented profession is lawyer.

@victortesla4198 No, a comparison. To make you ask the question: When is it ethnocentric and when is it not? And if it is ethnocentric, does that automatically mean it is wrong? And is it still ethnocentric when you are saying something that the people inside the country also see as a problem?

The problem with that line of argument is that it does not hold up. Yes, there are negative effects (as with nearly every change), but there are also a lot of positive effects, but somehow they always get ignored. Especially effect "on the economy". There are many, many studies that show that DEI has lead to better company results. Of course there are also some that show no effect or a slight negative result. Because life is messy and it's impossible to pin down one factor. But overall? DEI was and is good. As for the games or movies: The market will handle that.

Let me put it like this: A) She can play whatever she wants. B) I certainly prefer people with those urges watch a video than going after real school girls.

Second hand weed smoke? lol I admit the stink is horrible, but there are no health effects of that - other than the horrible stink of e.g. cars. And "work hard culture"? Putting aside if it's a good thing or if instead a society should strive to eliminate as much paid work as possible to increase the freedom of people - the amount of "overwork death" really is not a positive thing!

I would propose two more reasons besides the well known economical ones: A) Japan is very crowded. There might be a biological instinct contrary to "more birth after a catastrophe" that lowers the wish for children in crowded societies. Also climate change may lower intentions by the knowledge that the world will be harder. B) Family structure. children - putting aside that they played a lot more alone - were generally raised in a net of social contacts, not least grandparents. With so many people living away from relatives (or not having them at all) or informal groups, the uncertainty and stress and probabyl real time investment per child is a lot higher.

Yeah, if oyu have English teachers that learned their English only from English teachers that have never been outside Japan... you don't get students with English, but only Jenglish.

Sending money to Ukraine is just self-defense. Don't forget that Japan as a disputed border with Russia, which has already stolen land from several countries just since 2000. And anyway, Ukraine money is peanuts compared to what is there. You only need to make the rich pay a fair share. Japan is still a very rich country. Just like in many other countries, the problem is that the wealth is unfairly distributed. You are a business owner? So you must understand: It's stupid that someone who wants to build up a company has it so much harder than someone simply inheriting it, regardless of the actual work and ability.

@GameFuMaster Most Japanese don't know for 100% of they will remain in Japan for the rest of their life. Your argument is nonsense. If you pay taxes, you shoudl also have a say in how these taes are used. No taxation without representation, right? Not to mention that moving to a different country every few years might be because of the job or simply life style, it doesn't mean you are less investet. Often it's the opposite.

Is there a difference in stuttering between the languages? So does a Japanese that stutters in Japanese stutters more or less in English for example?

The main problem is getting students to speak. I know it was for me too. You just don't want to speak if you are not sure or slow. I once took a test from a university which told me I had a very good understanding of vocabulary for a native English speaker. I never have been inside an English-speaking country in my whole life. It's just exposure to other languages and reading scientific stuff. If you put me in a kitchen I would probably fail at telling someone how to cook an egg in English. So if exposure is the problem, expose the kids to a weekend of a school trip where everyone swears to only speak English. Make it a game. They can use a dictionary in a pinch, but otherwise use your head, arms, legs or whatever you can find. Everyone is the same, so it's okay. That probably makes them better at speaking than a year of classroom lessons.

@LukeHartman-ro7hl The own one of course ;) Moral standards can differ, but there are certain things that (I hope) we all on earth agree on, on least publicy. The US have put that down as "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The German constitution goes a step further stating that human dignity is inviolable, und subsuming a lot of stuff under that (like the right to privacy). Regardless of that I think the old speech of the US writ is a lot more poetic and better captures the heart of the matter. And it is that heart that is the moral standard we have all agreed upon. So the question WHO gets to decide is wrong one, because we all already did.

English is one of the easiest langauges to learn. Japanese probably the hardest (if you include writing). That a lot of people have "help" by speaking a related language does nto change that fact.

@bubblesofsoapy Yeah, putting aside how much "child" is a correct description for an acted character that legally can have sex with someone the same age... a lot of people who enjoy "school girl" content are likely just A) like cute or B) want to go back to school in their mind. Make-believe in being a young boy (again) and have the first love. Especially if you never had one or only one-sided.

@GameFuMaster If you live there and your dividends are higher than a 40h minimum wage job income, then yes. Just as an example. You could of course say dividends don't count because dividends are not work/local income. (Don't forget the discussion in Japan is mostly about municipal elections, not necessarily the country wide ones.)

@GameFuMaster No, I am saying voting rights should be based on where you live (which is most easily defined on where you pay taxes). But I was referencing to the arguments in the video.

If you pay taxes in X, you should have a right to vote in X, to decide how your taxes are used. Or as the Americans put it ages ago: No taxation without representation.

You know, that post reveals mroe of your morals than it says about the relationship of teh wife/husband. Why should the husband no be relieved if it turns out she did not cheap but merely was working?
