Public transport makes sense regardless if the people are rich enough to afford "private transport" (whatever that means). If "private transport" means cars, then that is something that does not make sense in most cases. It's the most expensive, most space taking, most environment damageng and most people killing mode of transport - by far. It isn't some sort of miracle - it's a car.

Yeah, I first laughed about the security checkpoints at train. What do they expect you to do with a highjacked train? Drive it around a city corner really really fast? If you want to kill people, just rent a truck. Far easier.

@vikasreddy3603 Security check points are a stupid time and money waste, that is wrong with them. As for the other point: That depends on culture if you talk or not (I certainly prefer not, I don't want to be exhausted by a train ride). And generally, no, you don't stare. Why woudl you do that? Don't be rude! btw. have you ever heard about the grandiose invention named "book"? It's a tool with which you can either entertain or learn yourself if verious situations.

@matthewmosier8439 While it is correct that for comparison reasons you have to calculate death per capity, vehicle miles driven has nothing to to with that statistics. Except when you want to argue that you just have to design your cities in a way that people don't have to use a car to get a bag of milk or to their neighbor next street. Like stop putting everythign far away from everythign else, stop making a race course out of everything and stop building those awful stroads.

Now imagine that same passengers in airplanes: Every train is 10 airplanes. Or cars: Every train is a half-hour long car column dozens of kilometers long.

@manuelp7472 You got something wrong here, I watched too much about not just bikes.

@GoodMomo It is something that only poor people do if it is bad. Imho that is the whole point of the public transit system in the US: So thet "we" don't have to travel with "those people". Classicism (one parent racism) is really bad.

@socks_cat356 Fares are only high if you compare to what your car uses on gas and forget that the metal cage and the shitton of streets also cost money.

@kakilander3238 Not a single accident-based fatality. Many suicides though, which is why there are the gates. But it's really impressive. Like, not even at the Kobe earthquake or 2011.

I don't think there were every 10% of the population of the city there and gone the other year. You would have heard the cries of first rising house prices and missing doctors, and then of a broken housing market with falling prices and doctors complaining about not being able to live.
