Most of the land was unoccupied and unused but the Jews built the city of Tel Aviv from scratch. When the British partitioned the land in 1948 into two states, Israel got 55% and Palestine got 45%. But the very next day 6 Arab states started and lost the war against Israel. In this process, Palestinians lost some territory. Palestinians started and lost wars since 1948. And they lost some territory after each war. If you don't want to lose territory, then you should stop waging wars! It's as simple as that! There is no occupation and no land was stolen! Even Arab countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, etc. have realized that Israel has been doing the right thing all along, hence the recent Abraham accords.
