  2. 1. Your route out of NYC and much of the way north could be the old New York Central Railroad's "Water Level Route". That route passed to Penn Central in 1968, then after PC's 1970 bankruptcy, to Amtrak and/or various commuter rail authorities including Metro-North. 2.
