Well, well, well, what a surprise Flamingo. You enjoy looking a fool? Thanks Nedaxel for doing Bill's work for him.

My point was that MGTOW's high ideals come easy when you have a full belly and it's the other guy you're judging. That is not a personal attack unless you, Starlord, are feeling insecure and guilty and choose to take it that way. Otherwise it is a simple observation of human nature.

I am awed to be able to see this. Thank you for sharing. She had me hooked. And then she said "That's not all" and wow was she right! Please show us more as it becomes available.

+Mellamosean I think we agree about the pressures driving automation. But I'm not clear about your position on the fundamental contradiction involved. You seem to suggest that the losses of jobs and income are limited to a few isolated sectors. If so that might weaken the impact of the problem but not remove it. I believe the impact on workers is more deep and wide than you seem to believe. NPR News Hour has been discussing the topic for several weeks now. No less a conservative than David Brooks points out in response to Trump's claims about bringing jobs back, that 70% have been lost to automation. Only 30% have gone overseas. The All Things Considered show recently did a series looking at a Wisconsin town that lost their auto plant. An interview with the woman directing the local community college job retraining program was very enlightening about the minimal success they had. I was astounded to hear that on average those who did not go through retraining did better than those who had. A big problem was that employers with positions open wanted experience as well as education. Given the radical changes in job functions that many had, the employers were discounting the prior experience. Are you accounting for the ripple effect when you talk about an isolated group and retraining? Roughly 3,000 jobs were lost at the auto plant when the manufacturer moved production. Estimates are that another 9,000 were lost when businesses that supported the plant or provided services to the plant workers failed. This is not a new phenomenon. The "rust belt" is rife with case studies. I don't know how to cite broadcast materials or I would do that. Perhaps we can learn to do these things better. Perhaps we need to move to a minimum guaranteed income. But these things are only band-aids. They do not address the fundamental flaws. The companies that automate early will do ok relative to those that do not because they have a market among the employees of the latter. But the slower companies will need to automate to be competitive or go out of business. Either way workers lose, and then the businesses start to fail. That is the classic tragedy of the commons updated for today.

Thank you for providing this source. It is a treat for someone around here to do so. But I hardly need tell you that NCPA is hardly free of it's own agenda. While that by itself does not discredit the numbers, it is cause for skepticism. I will be looking underneath the presentation. Just one example for now, dearie, is their raising the false flag of the average. I've already pointed to government sources that provide pretty details breakdowns. On a positive note, their conclusion does point to factors leading to the gap other than discrimination. And one of them was the topic of this TED presentation.

+Chidds Sadly your simple explanation is too simplistic. Sure there are plenty who post something along the lines of TED doing something on science. But it is TED's channel to use as they wish. They say in their description, "The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and more." Viewers who don't like it are just a free to leave, to unsubscribe. Or better yet, start their own channel. However, a very large percentage of criticism is triggered by gender and social issues. Add a darker skin color to the mix and it's like a river dance with all the knee jerking. It's a very clear pattern. There is plenty of overlap between the first and the second. But they are pretty clear and distinct. If you don't see it then that says something about you. Perhaps it's a chance to learn?

Trolls will be trolls.
4
It's pretty clear that wohdin was making a general observation, not just referring to this talk. I think he's right, from that perspective even if you toss out the trolls. But how can you say "There's mo misogyny" in this one? Surely you're not that blind because there's clearly one.

Says you

Goth does your knee hurt when it jerks like that and hits you up aside the head? Go back to your PBR until you can think of a relevant comment. Or better yet start your own channel?
4
Thank you for sharing this perspective. I'm familiar with the philosophy such as Descartes and Hume. But I'm not qualified to comment on the technical aspects of his presentation. I did have a sense of only getting the Kool-Aid version at times but it was nice to have a refresher.

Gummy does the knee-jerk

Ouija, We all believe we are justified. We are often just as wrong. But it is less wrong to admit the error and learn from it, than it is to deny.
4
Yawn
4
Too bad you are closed off to learning. Well enjoy your bubble.
4
Wake up. Yay! Our troll is up and about.
4
How about you read TED's own description of their mission before you open your mouth and stick your foot in it?
4
@IndiaTides No not really. I just follow your logic which I agree with. I really doubt Bush would have propagated lies aboutWMD in Iraq if he knew he had to ship out. Just keep them honest.
4
nice one, bot!
4
Timmac Yeah especially a sub-minimum wage job so society can subsidize the owners.
4
I'm fine with your idea. But let's take it to the natural conclusion. Let's require thepeople proposing conspiracies to post all their data and sources. Simple.
4
How about you read TED's description of itself? Or is it easier to wallow in your whimsy?
4
KolBamekil No thanks. His science is good. But his social commentary is banal and shallow.
4
Dheeraj Basic rights change over time as technology and societies change. Not long ago there was no concept of universal health care. Now most of the top developed countries have it. People said the same thing you asked. But you must think through the economics to see why guaranteed minimum income must happen. 1) Business is motivated to maximize profit made from sales of goods and services. 2) The bulk of sales are to consumers, and consumers need income to buy these things. 3) AI will displace workers because the cost of goods sold will be lower and thus profits increase. 4) Companies who move to AI the soonest will make the most money. Those doing so later will have shrinking markets. 5) Eventually economies must collapse because no one can afford to buy anything. 6) At some point the unemployed masses will rise up to demand food, water, shelter, etc. 7) Guaranteed minimum income will be the most direct and expedient solution.

These platforms facilitate the mob nonsense in the forum. They use the energy and support provided by the modes and means of living and mearly take when they do not control the "kids" of all ages who behave wrongly, for whatever reasons. Right now they have incentive for it in the advertising medel. That needs to change. Just for a start.
4
Jason, Seriously, you need to learn some history and some science. I wasn't proving your point by setting out some facts about mobility. This lack of mobility is party accounted for by class, in that the lowest 20% measured by income or wealth show almost no improvement over their parent's status. But within that change, whites do better than blacks or recent migrants. That is not due to race. It is due to structural remnants of earlier de jure discrimination such as poor education, limited commute options, living from check to check, poor health, etc. You show your bias by jumping to conclusions that confirm your opinions. Marxism has nothing to do with anything, but I understand that it makes you feel good to think so.
4
Carson. Cool. Now we add special pleading to the list. You're on a roll now. A few more and we'll have a text book case. And in public domain too, so no charge. Thanks buddy!
4
Carson, it's quite clear that you don't. That's why I have decided to stop. I don't abuse animals, kids, or the disabled.
4
Feed me, Seymour

Bayes works for me on the whole
4
you're such a sad sack. sad. So sad.
4
I just finished Rimsky-Korsakov's Principles of Orchestration. That was good. This feels more important.
4
Argomundo It shows lolol
4
Simone I agree with you about a universal income. I've commented about it before, an I think you have too. It is inevitable or there will be chaos in the streets of the world. But that leaves the opportunity to develop real work and skills that affirm wellness and life since work will not be tied to narrow views of profit and capital, views that make people into mere objects. That is part of the presenter's message.

They are gods. Trillians and bazillions of them. Just wait till we get to Mars and Triton!
4
Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
4
@bitsiebubblebee7129 Nice knee jerk can-can dance there bub. I said nothing about my opinion but you said a LOT about your insecurities.
4
MrmeSmiley Good luck to you. When it gets tough, just remember to take it one day at a time. We can deal with anything one day at a time.
4
This is a brilliant idea. It can be distributed world wide at very little cost to present a more complete and balanced history and presentation of current affairs. Hearing somoe of the Democratic presidential candidates talking about systemic discrimination and oppression suggests things are slowl moving forward . And this augmented reality can work in support.
4
What a delightful story! Thank you for sharing.
4
Squirrell You're missing the point. She's not saying capitalism is bad. There was capitalism before the crazy growth model we're in. It's the fetish fixation on growth that is the problem.
4
TxColter Your "virtue signaling" is just dog whistle response triggered by your insecurity. The term is bullshit right wing diffusion and an attempt to dismiss things that impinge on their presuppositions. We're on to it. Just stop because you look like a 8 year old, and KellyAnne has used up all the tolerance of this crap.
4
Sarcasm, right?
4
@robertbishop1908 Well, yes that would be a total reform lolol
4
Generations might be a nebulous thing. Isn't "Cohort" is more common in the literature?
4
She would dominate Robot Wars! You rock, Simone!

+Timmac It is time that the US went to a single payer system. It is immoral to make life and health profit centers for the insurance companies. As for your quality of care claim, that is very debatable. Yes, maybe cutting edge speculative treatment may be found more often in the US. But, and it's a big but, insurance companies will not pay for speculative treatment, and so it's only for the rich. But maybe you knew that since you limited your comment to leaders.
3
Chance = truly equal opportunity, a level playing field to start from. Without that then you can not have a just distribution system.

A while back I came across a book that came out in '78 called "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television." The author suggested a lot of the things discussed here would become issues. There was more, too. But here Adam Alter gives us research and updates on new tech. It is amazing how things change and yet stay the same.

+Kalin “extremophile obviously you never heard of the three types of Lies. Look at the money behind it. That would tell you the truth of the matter. Even science has been politicized. This video is a fine example of it. Passing his opinions as scientific fact. Lol” Those are your words, verbatim. That is nothing if it is not conspiracy. Sell your alt facts to someone born yesterday, probably by a virgin. You just keep stepping in it. Keep it up. You talk about superstitions? LMAO Honey you can’t pull your alt fact, Conway shuffle on me. You're the one who fell into the ID lie. ID is a fabrication made up by the creatards after the US courts found Creationism was religion and not science, so it couldn't be taught in a public school science class. The court in Kitzmiller vs Dover Board of Education issued a finding that the creation assholes took the book they wrote to lie to kids about creation, and did a global replace of "Intelligent Design" for "Creation." It's called trying to go in the back door. It's called lying, something you seem to have down. No one has any problem with creation or the bible being taught in public schools, so long as it is a survey of other religions. That way the state is not favoring one over any others. But you fundamentalists won't go for that. No doubt they are afraid that their kids will see that the Abraham cults are only one of many myths if they are allowed out of the confines of home censorship. The irony is that the myth they try to push says that faith is the ideal. But your faith is not strong enough to stand up on its own. Superstitions are like that.
