  2. I hear what you guys are saying. Of course people intuit time zones and if asked they might come to see that mars must have them too. (But surely very few people actually thought about it.) More interesting though is how something like this impacts people's lives and the systems needed to deal with it in NASA and elsewhere. That real. That's rubber meeting the road. That's what leads people to realize that science and engineering is real people and could be something they can do.

  4. It's pretty clear that wohdin was making a general observation, not just referring to this talk. I think he's right, from that perspective even if you toss out the trolls. But how can you say "There's mo misogyny" in this one? Surely you're not that blind because there's clearly one.

  5. If only that were so. Now I think you're right that the social justice topic presented by anyone will bring a knee jerk reaction. But women have giving STEM presentations on TED that were informative, insightful and entertaining, only to get slighted and slandered. This is supported by the silence of the majority. I especially enjoyed the dude who complained about me and wohdin protesting and spoiling things. Yet he didn't say squat about the Starpunk troll saying the presenter should go back to the kitchen. I'd bet a nice dinner that didn't spoil anything, that he even thought it was funny. Everything's funny from the perspective of the white man's easy chair.
