+MGT So says the man with the full belly.

Maybe if we don't take this step because a basic income is a right, we will do so out of economic necessity. Automation is quickly taking over ever more aspects of production and distribution. It won't be long before architects, engineers, doctors and lawyers can be replaced. But an inherent contradiction within capitalism is that the increase in efficiency eliminates the ability of consumers to pay for the very same goods and services. Doesn't a basic income become the only option? Let me rephrase that. It's the only viable option. Maybe you would wait for the economy to collapse, or for the people to rise up?

My point was that MGTOW's high ideals come easy when you have a full belly and it's the other guy you're judging. That is not a personal attack unless you, Starlord, are feeling insecure and guilty and choose to take it that way. Otherwise it is a simple observation of human nature.

+Selkie (Love the name!) From all I hear, AI is coming and will take over more and more from humans. I guess we can call that automation. The blind drive of profit and competition virtually assures it. So you hit the nail on the head. As people are put out of work, they won't be able to support themselves or buy the goods and services being produced. I suspect it will take a while for the replacement to happen on a large scale. And people will think that it won't affect them; the short sighted won't care. "Let them eat cake," right? But it seems like long before the saturation point happens, there will be a critical mass of displaced people. Maybe the first event is the economy stops growing or at least slows to the point that investors are not happy. Maybe the first event is an uprising of people who have lost everything and can't feed their kids. But either or both, or something else, will create the political will to find the money to fund a guaranteed income. Granted, I have no research or cites to point to. But this outline isn't rocket science. You don't have to look hard to see it happening now at local levels. Just scale it up.

Good for you! Excelsior! Ad Astra!

He was quoting the people who he started out the presentation with. I guess you're smarter than Moore or Milton Friedman. But it appears not. Your notion of rights originating at birth is a bit simplistic and lacks an understanding of both political philosophy and political history. That said, I think there's no argument that rights imply duties. However, calling this slavery when we have taxes in place requires that you call all taxation slavery if you're to be consistent. That seems a bit extreme.
