I remember a scene from Andrew Marrs BBC series about Britain, and it showed marchers in the early 70s carrying placards with the N word ( yes that word I can't print !). And he said that 'we find this shocking and unacceptable today". Old comedy programmes never get repeated, from Alf Garnett, "It Ain't Half hot mum" up to more recently Little Britain and the League of Gentlemen. Why ? because someone might be offended. Even stating the fact a man can not be a woman gets you cancelled or a visit from the police, as with Posie Parker.. Yes free speech comes with responsibility.. likewise it's the responsibility of the viewer or listener as to whether they might be offended.

The traditional industries have gone and many "working class" people are self employed, home owners who have conservative views and subliminal middle class ambitions. Labour realised that under Blair, and since then thats the demographic ( the middle ground) they and everyone everyone goes for. What we now have is a white NON working class that all the parties( especially Left wing parties) patronise backed up with minority and identity politics. Which appeals to the ' real' middle class, teachers, civil servants and public sector workers and their unions..The coal miners have gone but the Durham Miners Gala carries on alongside Durham Pride parade..and Sir Kier Starmer and Labour will be there marching in solidarity..while the "white working class" on the other hand will be filling in their Self assessment tax returns.
