Putin thought "ooh nows my chance I'll sneak into the Ukraine whilst they're to busy squabbling about the price of fish " Russia invaded in 2014, we had the EU referendum in 2016 ! The west stood back in 2014 because they didn't want to provoke Putin. The US withdrawal from Afghanistan was what convinced Putin that the West was unlikely to intervene in 2021 and he was right. It was only when the Ukraine pushed the Russians back that the REAL aid was sent after the West realised that the Russian military was more bark than bite.... Brexit had bugger all to do with it, if the EU can't even protect its own borders do you really think it was going to protect the Ukraines ?
