There could be built into the system, whereby, if there is the slightest doubt, imprisonment for life would apply, until irrifutable evidence of guilt, or proof of innocence, was found. There have been infamous examples in modern history, of wrongful execution, which is what worries people, but their can be safeguards , created by law, and modern means of technical testing- e.g DNA etc We need a DETTERENT.
