Well said. We have to however keep on trying to find a good really secular and non corrupt political dispensation. AAP comes to my mind and they appear to have done a decent job with no corruption issues so far.

Kamal has not said anywhere he is against reservation. Anyhow he can’t do anything about it as it is enshrined in the Constitution.

@jamests752 — you are reading too much into his remark. How can he take away constitutionally guaranteed reservation. Perhaps what he he meant was that instead of mentioning caste name one should declare if one is BC, SC, OBC etc., Like the removal of caste names in street signs. Any move to eschew open display of caste names is one more step towards an egalitarian society.

@jamests752 — I understand your bias. We are talking about reservation which no party has tampered with. No State opposes NEET except TN. Is there any rationale to oppose whatever BJP does? Kamal did welcome Swatch Bharath. Do you say that’s also bad. Kamal bats for secularism while BJP is blatantly Hindutva. So, don’t brand him as pro BJP.

@jamests752 — I have absolutely no quarrel with your stand on Kamal. I do agree that TN was in the forefront of battle for social justice but Mandal Commission, the game changer in matters of reservation, was born in N India under VP Singh. TN can’t take credit for it. On a larger note reservation needs relook as it is yet to reach a large section of the people as only a handful of castes reap the benefit repeatedly. Sattanathan Committee Report is yet to be implemented. N India wanted to promote Hindi but no Government said English would be replaced. You take pride about English but sadly this has resulted in neglect of mother tongue all over India. Remember what Solomon Pappiah said. If you oppose NEET as it infringed States’ rights you have to change the constitution to bring education from concurrent list to the State list. Opposition to NEET is misplaced and political.

@jamests752 — ok, let us look at the ground reality. You need 2/3rd majority for any constitutional amendment and the BJ P is not going to be amenable to any demand for this unless there is a paradigm shift in their thinking on Centre-State relationship. The Q then is why we should indulge in empty rhetoric. Kamal taking a stand on this issue is irrelevant. He may at best put the demand for greater state autonomy in his election manifesto which you and I know means nothing. Let us not take the populist talks by political parties seriously.

@jamests752 — please look at history. For more than fifty years Congress ruled both at the Centre and most of the States. Now it is BJP hegemony. Both the parties are reluctant to part with their powers and regional parties making occasional cry for autonomy is a futile exercise. States should be satisfied if their existing powers are not taken away. Even DMK, the so called champion of State autonomy who shared power at the Centre for nearly twenty years, DID NOT make even the slightest attempt to demand more powers for the States. Real State autonomy till today remains a mere dream, only a subject matter of debate by scholars and political pundits. Let us now turn our attention to Panchayat Raj, meant to decentralize power and governance. The ruling parties don’t allow Panchayats to perform independently in the matter of giving tenders etc., as their share of commission money may dwindle. So, let us talk first about giving autonomy to the Panchayats.
