@Dr Vishwas Shastri — this is constant complaint of TN too. So, we have a vested interest in UP’s development. The sooner it develops the better for us so that we need not support the BIMARU states for ever.

@Velvet Thunder — what you tout about Kerala is only partially true. The bulk of the Keralites who go to the Middle East are skilled/semiskilled literates, not all white collar job seekers. There was grinding poverty in Kerala before the oil boom in the Gulf. That’s the reason why Keralites are the original internal migrants spawning countless jokes like “you can find a Kerala chaiwallah even at the Everest”! Agreed Kerala has a fragile eco system. But what about the development of marine related activities and industries. To a certain extent forest products too. Allowing indiscriminate tourism is already destroying God’s own country.

@Velvet Thunder — the type of migrants might have changed in the last few years but my remark was confined to the initial migrants. Agreed that the rich in Dubai are Malayalees because of the businesses they started to cater to the huge epxpat population.I said that Malayalees are the original migrants necessitated by the conditions in Kerala and not to prove their survival capability. Lastly I strongly object to your “hands off Kerala” remark. My post was not made su moto but in response to a post here.

@Velvet Thunder — I have no quarrel with Keralites being great people doing good for themselves but I only take umbrage to your sense of superiority and your insensitive running down the BIMARU workers. You say your are all educated people going abroad but you started not long ago as construction workers like the poor from UP now. Secondly it is the same poverty which drove you to look elsewhere for jobs and not to showcase your survival skills.
