Failed is a relative term. 368 Allied ships—including 120 amphibious craft—were damaged while another 36—including 15 amphibious ships and 12 destroyers—were sunk during the 62-day Okinawa battle. American casualties: 49,151. Of those, 12,520 were killed or missing and 36,631 were wounded in action. (None of the other comments mention the massive human toll the Kamikazes took on the U.S Navy)!
