Lee ignored his generals’ pleas not to launch a front assault over a mile of open ground! For supposedly being a brilliant military tactician, Lee ended up sending his young men to slaughter in Pickett's Charge - instead of living to fight another day! They were cannon fodder for the Union guns on the high ground! The battle - and the war - were lost in one fateful decision!

The needless slaughter of thousands of young men! Lee ignored his generals’ pleas not to attack over a mile of open ground! For supposedly being a brilliant military tactician, Lee ended up sending his young men to slaughter in Pickett's Charge! They were cannon fodder for the Union guns on the high ground! And no - it didn't come closed to succeeding. Rather than live to fight another day the battle - and the war - were lost in one fateful decision!!!

His greatest military blunder. Lee ordered the needless slaughter of thousands of young men! He ignored his generals’ pleas not to attack over a mile of open ground! They were cannon fodder for the Union guns on the high ground - and the Union infantry nehind the stone wall! Rather than live to fight another day the battle - and the war - were lost in one fateful decision!!!

Part of me says 'what's the point?' They say it's interesting and all that but the people they talk about and relate to were KILLING each other back then!

At 0:45 into the video the graphic said "the average age of a Civil War soldier was 25.8 years old." The boys who stormed the beaches at Normandy in WWII and died in places like Iwo Jima and Anzio - and then in Vietnam in the 1960s - were 18 and 19!

Lee's great blunder of the Civil War! He ignored his generals’ pleas not to launch a front assault over a mile of open ground! For supposedly being a brilliant military tactician, Lee ended up sending his young men to slaughter in Pickett's Charge - instead of living to fight another day! Pickett's Charge suffered over 50% casualties, higher in some regiments. From Wikipedia: As soldiers straggled back to the Confederate lines along Seminary Ridge, Lee feared a Union counteroffensive and tried to rally his center, telling returning soldiers and Wilcox (Brigade commander supporting Pickett) that the failure was "all my fault". Pickett was inconsolable for the rest of the day and never forgave Lee for ordering the charge. When Lee told Pickett to rally his division for the defense, Pickett allegedly replied, "General, I have no division."
