The Car Care Nut

It surprised me years ago when I started paying attention just how much the US exported just about EVERYTHING manufacturing related. We are so dependent on imports. Which is amazing because a few generations ago the US was a manufacturing powerhouse. Radios, TV's, appliances, electrical components and vacuum tubes for those goods, cars, car parts, steel.... Everything was made in the USA. My grandparents met on a telephone equipment manufacturing line back in the late 50's and early 60's. Now it's 95% gone. If we do assemble stuff (like washing machines and outdoor lawn equipment), it's made with imported goods.

At least they have cars that can be "hacked" to work. Sometimes you can hack fix electronic stuff, but the chances are rare, and some of those critical emissions parts can make your car illegal. Diesel truck drivers are getting hit with critical sensor shortages that are crucial for the truck to even move, because the ecu limits speed to a 5mph crawl if an exhaust emissions component is out of service. We are close to being in trouble.

@kimbuck-2 can be an innocuous as companies with power and control wanting you to rely on them more. The irrepairability of modern computers, pushes towards subscription models for physical hardware, manufacturers concentrating efforts on new cars and not even supplying spare parts for new cars ... "Ahh, just buy another" is growing into a stronger and stronger movement in industry. We also have food shortages, and we have multiple countries (USA and Europe at a minimum) with policies paying farmers to NOT plant their land, china stopping farmers from planting due to "covid", etc... Dosen't make a lot of sense, but it's too easy to laugh it off as a wacky conspiracy. There is no single person in control, but there is certainly a motion towards global chaos and reliance on people and corporations with power that dosen't make a lot of sense when looked at as anything besides another step at gaining power and control.

@kimbuck-2 man your keyboard and complain about it like me! 😆 I've just tried to keep myself as independent as possible. Moved out to a rural home last year (had been planning on it for a while though) have an off grid solar setup that can run my house for a few days of snowy weather, wood fired furnace, just have to get into raising chickens later so I can raise my own food. I'll also never buy into any of the irrepairable crap.
