The Car Care Nut

that's what annual safety inspections are for. junk and salvage titles are issued after a car was "totalled" by insurance and sold at auction. you don't get a salvage title because a car is excessively rusty... at that point it's supposed to fail it's state safety inspection. but it takes more than that to fail in most states, the frame or suspension has to be compromised.

yeah, it depends upon the state you are in. some states need an inspection by the state police to check for stolen parts and vin swapping.

wish I could say that... I go down to the south and it's a time capsule of cars I haven't seen in years!

an old car will usually have a pretty worn out ignition. I had an old car like that, didn't even need a key if you turned the lock hard enough and jiggled! haha

yeah, oil based rust protection is a good thing if you want to keep your car.

wow, the used market must be vastly different in the middle east. is there a lack of used cars? that's not stuff I like to see on a car! I wouldn't put a car like that in the showroom... I worked at a few dealers and only the nicest cars went there.

@toiletpapermerchant9310 how much is fuel? Is it still extremely inexpensive? I agree on the leases vehicles, they tend to not be cared about. however not everyone drives their company car like a maniac. You can usually tell if the person had some level of care by the interior wear. You spend a good portion of your life driving it around, so even if it's not your car it's always been my belief to keep it clean. I used to treat my work box van like that, since I spent 40+ hrs a week in it. But if the price is too high that's a useless point anyways...
