The Car Care Nut

Driving older cars with speedometers that end at 75-85 is weird, the speedometer goes up so fast and always looks maxed out.

@ellerybice3787 it's a joke...

I know you are joking but it's easy to defeat. It's more for general safety, kids playing around (or even adults working) and finding themselves trapped. That's why locking refrigerator doors, or walk in coolers that can't be opened from the inside are no longer up to code.

I saw his car as a teen back in the 00's when I traveled to a regional Volvo meet in PA. I think it had somewhere around 1.5 million miles on it at the time and looked great. I think it was on it's 2nd engine, or 2nd rebuild? I forgot about it until he died and was amazed it went 3 million! He sure loved driving that little car, I don't blame him!

The speed limiter in cars is also linked to the speed rating of the original tires on the window sticker. When reflashing the ECU on some cars it asks for the tire option so the appropriate limiter can be applied.

9:05 I got to see that car about 20 years ago at a Volvo meet. I'm surprised it still holds the record.

@rightlanehog3151 yeah he was talking to people and I could have met him if I wasn't a shy 18 year old that didn't want to bother him. I have those pictures somewhere on a drive.... I really have to organize my old stuff now that I think of it.

I've never been to more than a handful of gas stations where you were forced to pull in only one way.

@katherynscleaning5807 definitely, it was a publicity piece for them. At that time I remember reading a story where they gave him a new V70XC (before Volvo switched up the naming like it is today). And I said he's probably not going to drive this thing. Who even knows where that car is now (the free one), it was just a sales campaign by Volvo because those cars didn't hold up to the test of time like a basic carbureted metal car would. And even as a kid I knew the car wasn't "stock", lots of work to keep the interior, steering, suspension and drive line good.
