How the interviewer got through without pissing himself at their costumes is equally impressive.

@gtully40 I think one man's virtue signalling can be another man's compassion. Like comedy, it's hard to draw a definitive line.

@gtully40 Just because everyone knows what they were there for, is that a legitimate reason to host it? If this was run by a Muslim group telling anti-white jokes, I'm pretty sure there would be universal outrage, no matter how calm the audience acted upon leaving the venue. There would be talk about "programming" Muslims, and "incitement" and "perpetuation of division." It's not an easy issue to come down on either way.

549,000 people - not just the 500 who would have seen this show.

@gtully40 So what about Islamic or white supremacist radicalisation? It's just words. Changing attitudes. Until it's not.

Yeah, not allowed to lynch black people, call foreigners names, or burn crosses on black family's lawns. What a tragedy. Of course, I'm being hyperbolic, but perhaps the world never felt like much fun when you were on the receiving end of a society where extreme racism was casually fomented and expressed. I don't know where the line is Stephen, but I'm glad people are trying to be more compassionate and considerate.

I agree that the woke brigade actively amplify division, but did allowing things like this also do the same? Perhaps if you were on the receiving end, you felt pretty hated. I imagine the demographic for a Chubby Brown gig are not all that racially diverse.

There is clearly a line, even in comedy, where edgy racism becomes simple hate speech. It's all well and good whining about free speech when you are not on the receiving end, but the council should not be using tax payer money to pander to people who enjoy that kind of "humor". If they like him, nobody is preventing them from hiring him independently. They have 30,000 signatures - that's many times more people than would have visited the show. If they all paid for their tickets in advance, they could easily hire a local venue and host this man. My main question is why the man was booked then cancelled. That seems like a recipe for conflict.

Free speech always had limits. Hate speech is one of them. I don't know if this man's routine rises to that level. Just saying.

@helmutsilver5006 Lol - brilliant descriptions! Aligns very much with my understanding.

@james2479 Islamic radicalisation is relatable to young Muslim men. If you don't like it, you don't have to go to their mosques right?
