"Don't panic buy food." I'm not panicking, I'm prudently increasing my stock so that if everything DOES go tits up, I can survive for a few months. I'm sick of wise forethought being portrayed as "panic." All kids are taught the parable of the ant and the grasshopper, but now metaphorical winter is coming and everyone is telling us to be the grasshopper.

How many times does this man need to explain that cheap foreign labour is not the solution? Do we really want to end up with a situation where our entire infrastructure depends upon low paid, temporary works who are not familiar with our roads? Appalling presenter.

@NPC You appear to have worked out my entire psychological and response profile based on one speculative post. That's a hell of a psychology degree you must have. Applying what happens in the USA - a nation with a corrupt political system, a weakened haulage union, no minimum wage, and notoriously bad treatment of truckers, worsened by certain recent GOP appointments, to the UK industry, which has minimum wage, ample rules on employee treatment, legally enforcable maximum drive hours, far shorter distances and entirely different problems only goes to demonstrate your vast intellect. Muppet.

@NPC I am pointing out the vulnurability of you making assumptions about me when your comprehension is so cleary lacking. "The issues of the trucking industry are much the same in the US, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands etc." SOME issues, but not most. The Netherlands is smaller than Britain - what on earth are you talking about?! That you see bringing facts and logic to the table as "stupid" says it all quite frankly.

@alphabet_soup123 It's better for the convenience of the ones responsible for maintaining the system, just like it was better for the Titanic that the people in steerage stayed down there and allowed the rich people to board the lifeboats first. And you know what happened to them? Almost all of them died. You need to realise that only YOU can take care of yourself and your family. If you are depending on the government or others to take care of you, you were one of the ones ho woke up this morning with an empty tank and no means to get where you were going. And that was caused by mismanagement, not panic buying. Price gouging is a different matter, but where do market fluctations end and gouging begin?

@NPC You live in a world where the Russian government uses social media to erode faith in western democracy, where Chinese state hackers infiltrate western industries, where America destabilised Iran to bring about a more malleable government AND infected the world's nuclear refining equipment with viruses, where leading global figures are talking about the "great reset", where the NHS is being privatised by stealth, where opposition to Palestine was painted as "anti-semetism" to undermine the electability of the most pro-working class labour leader this country has had in decades, where a virus has emerged from a district in China right on top of the state-funded virology lab, and whose work is partially funded by the US right after the US (ineptly) played trade hardball with them, where Russian agents literally kill people on the streets of Britain, and you are NOT at least a little sceptical of EVERY event of national import?!!! Then I would suggest that the problem is your staggering level of naivete, not any propensity towards conspiritorial thinking on my behalf. The rich and powerful are DEMONSTRABLY, PROVABLY playing international games. The question is, which events are simply down to unintentilonal global forces, and which are the result of conscious actions.

Actually, what I was going to say is that I am not an expert in the road haulage issues of every nation on Earth (or ANY nation), and there are shortages of drivers across the western world. Just a brief bit of research reveals that one of the causes for the shortage in the Netherlands is due to the growth of their economy which is NOT shared in Britain. The fact that shared causes may feed into the problem - particularly the effect of lackdown, or the rise in attractiveness of short haul delivery driving is just a part of the problem. There are unique factors in America that may mask the problem, such as the difficulty in career mobility, and the lack of socialised health care and house. Those issues do not exist in Britain, so drivers forced into furlow or onto the labour market are far more mobile, and may have different employment options. So many of those unique issues were highlighted in this very video. As I said, muppet.
