I very much doubt it. Even if the Romans were the master engineers you seem to think, even they would not be able to hold back the entire mediterranean ocean. The problem is, Venice wants to have its cake and eat it. It wans to remain a little flooded but turn the floods away when the sea level rises. There's an easy solution - just fill in the three access ways, or two and leave the third to have hydraulic gates. But I'm guessing ocean access remains important.

So you live in the middle of a giant lagoon that is prone to flood, and apparently water-damagable supplies, and you haven't taken precautions like maybe, tall shelves? Like using your second floor? Like a large stock of sandbags? You may be a master glassmaker, but you're clearly not a master tactician.

@ontariobushcraft536 You keep saying that but I can find no record that it ever happened. Can you point to an article that I can read on the subject please?

Oh the irony - Venice rejected a climate crisis plan, then literally flooded within hours. Zero sympathy.

@mrcockney-nutjob3832 Skeptical science says otherwise https://skepticalscience.com/sea-level-rise.htm What alternate information do you have to support your claim?

@ontariobushcraft536 I think you're mistaken. Venice was built on islands, which were then connected by piling in the water, so it was always filled with water. Regardless, it's the glassmaker's lack of tactical wisdom that I was commenting upon.
