The way this man died was stupid. He came into a situation that was already well in hand then forgot to allow himself enough oxygen to get back! This man was supposedly an expert diver, but he made such a fundamental mistake? His death is sad but pointless and totally self inflicted. If he was an amateur firefighter who rushed into a burning building carrying a can of gasoline, people would recognise his foolhardy behaviour for what it was. He has simply been a distraction, not an asset and doesn't deserve recognition as a hero.

You know nothing more about this man's death than I do. But what we both know is that he was an experienced professional diver who suffocated because he failed to leave himself enough oxygen for the return journey. The fact that he died sadly or in fear makes absolutely no difference as to whether he was foolish. With all his experience, he should have allowed himself enough oxygen to return or should have used the buddy system or he should not have attempted the journey. There is NO way that you can portray this man's death as anything but the foolish waste of a life by a man who should have known better.

Any of those are flaws he should have allowed for as a supposed expert.

The dangers were well known and quantifiable because they are the same dangers as any long distance cave dive. If anything, they were better known here because the route had already been traversed so many times by others.

Somebody who rushes into a dangerous situation recklessly and makes it worse is no hero. Think what you want. At least the boys are out safe. Has video showing any of them since their rescue been shown?

He made the situation worse by his own incompetence. How is that an amazing way to die?
