Comments by "Mat Broomfield" (@matbroomfield) on "Dad builds robotic exoskeleton to help son walk - BBC News" video.
Oh come on, tell us more. BBC, why do you always manage to disappoint nowadays? Can the boy walk around his home WITHOUT a human backup? Are they lightening it? Does it help to build muscle? How is it controlled? Why do hospitals use it? What medical issue does Oscar have?

@themagnificentorange672 You could say that about any news piece "World about to end in terrible disaster" "Its your job to research it if you really care." No - the whole point is, if BBC feels that this is important enough to bring to our attention, it's important enough to provide some useful information. 82 seconds on such an important subject is not a news piece - it's a glorified Tik Tok video.

Just to be clear, this device was NOT designed for Oscar, nor is it suitable for him. The device aids rehabillitation. It's too heavy for home use, cannot by used unattended, and is not intended as a way for wheelchair users to walk. This is a quite disgraceful piece of reality bending by the the BBC's constantly inept science correspondents, giving hope to people who should be looking elsewhere.

If there was a god, the boy would not be in a wheelchair.

@roxyiconoclast Yes, you're probably right Roxy. Or at least, it's a first step as they work on an affordable, personal version. I very much hope that they can achieve it, but I don';t imagine it will ever be available for the average person because it's going to be a 10-20k device at the cheapest.

@roxyiconoclast 3D printing is incredibly interesting. It's already being used for prosthetic hands, but IMO, lacks the strength for legs. It's also being used for lost wax creation of dentures. I suspect that in consunction with MRI scans, it will also have a place in creating far more accurate bone reconstruction/replacement templates for people after injuries or with deformities. Exciting times to be alive Roxy!

@julianshepherd2038 Except they're not. In fact, this exoskeleton is not even suitable for HIS son. It's designed for rehabillitation, not mobility for quadraplegics.

@roxyiconoclast One day, zero cost nano manufacturing will exist, then lightway exosuits will become available for all. As for people not noticing you, I think it's quite the opposite - as a courtesy, they don't want to appear as though they are looking down on you.
