  1. NEVER trust the police. They don't have your best interests at heart, and always occupied a position of unjustified power and respect. This is a very extreme case, and there are some truly fantastic policemen and women, but far too many are authoritarian thugs at best. The issue is not vetting. They KNEW this man was a wrong 'un but did NOTHING. It's that "always protect your own" blue line mentality that is half the problem. The idea that these thugs can simply take people off the street with the backing of the state is half the problem. If you resist arrest, no matter how unjustified the "arrest", the courts will ALWAYS see that as a negative on YOUR behalf. Clearly, as in this case, the police have WAY too much power.
