@JN-wn1kw For starters, China owes the rest of the world NOTHING - they are political and economic rivals; low-level enemies even, so expecting them to act in our best interests is optimistic. Secondly, Covid did NOT start in a lab - we're not certain it came from bats or even CHINA, although both are plausible. And you want to criticise China's policy? America's president denied that there was any threat and ridiculed those who took precautions; Britain's PM acted as though it was no threat and allowed the cheltenham festival with over 300,00 attendees to go ahead, even as it was spreading, and even NOW allows people to fly in from other infection zones. Brazil's Bolsonaro said it was fake and did nothing, Russia's Putin was desperately slow to act. Compared to the actions of our OWN leaders, China's hands are almost clean.

@doomslayer4276 So a borderline fascist state lacks transparency? And anyone is surprised why? The fact is, the world wants to exploit business opportunities with China so we all turn away from their human rights record and their economic practices. Maybe this will get people to take a more realistic view of China and organise our interactions with them a little more cautiously.

@darwinism14 Hmmm, so the world is going to hold it accountable how? We stop trading with it, and we all get hurt. We levy tarrifs, and it is US that pays. We impose fines and they just laugh at us. We threaten war and they simply point out their million soldiers and nuclear arsenal. Ultimately, as with trump's trade tarrifs, we are toothless tigers. The best we can do is try to foster great openness, but given that they are economically at war with us, I don't see that happening. They are ideological different to us. Almost totally self-sufficient if needs be, and their sources of minerals are not from the west or NATO nations. And of course, that's assuming I accpt that their behaviour was criminal, which it was not because they are not bound by any international laws.

@darwinism14 Money rules EVERYTHING! The US's entire military policy is guided by people who want to profit from weapons. To hell with all the deaths. These companies can make trillions by manufacturing in a country with virtually no labour laws. What is the abstract connection of a million deaths compared to that?! I agree that FORCING companies away is the only way it will ever happen - I've been saying that for decades) but then where will they go, India, the Phillipines, and we'll just hand control to another nation.

@1j9hd97 The government can ALWAYS fund the military. It's all just virtual currency anyway. And do you really think the UK government is going to stand by and let China buy up all of the UK's stricken businesses after this? Well, Tories might, but still...
