How can politics NOT be divisive and polarised when one party is willing to stoop to any lie, any tactic, any defamation to tarnish the opposition?

+phantomcreamer Democracy is a dreadful idea. The problem is, it's hard to come up with an alternative that is not going to quickly devolve into corruption or a dictatorship.

Miller looks as unctuous and oily as he sounds.

+cloudshe I make no apology for violence on either side. The difference is, a presidential candidate has incited one side to violence, and offered to pay their legal costs if they end up in trouble. Also, let's be honest, Trump's supporters are largely racists who like the fact that they can come out of the closet about it.

Trump's massive insecurity continues to shoot him in the foot at every opportunity. Thanks Donny!

+canefan17 America doesn't remotely have a democracy. It claims to have a federal republic (a small group of representative elected officials acting for the good of the electorate), but it doesn't have that either. It has a plutocratic oligarchy. A small group wealthy individuals and corporations decides who you get to vote for and what gets done. In no way does America represent the will of the people. If it was a democracy, there would be more gun controls, which Americans have overwhelmingly expressed a desire for. I think to point at their one similarity and declare that Bernie and Trump have a lot in common is like saying crocodiles and Germans have a lot in common because they both have hearts. In just about EVERY way that could possibly matter in politics, Trump and Bernie are polar opposites. The fact that Trump is too wealthy to NEED the system of patronage, and Bernie is too principled (allowing both to be honest), is STILL a complete opposition of position. Trump cares only about Trump's ego, whereas Bernie cares only about the good of the nation. For people to develop polarised opinions about these candidates or others is a natural result of the fact that they are polarised. Nothing could be more important than the future of the largest republic on Earth, and right now it's spinning around the drain of history.

So someone who goes on a twitter rampage the second ANYONE hurts his feelings is better than someone who is momentarily nonplussed by an interruption to her speech? Give me a break!

He's not just sticking up for himself - he has the twitchy insecurity of a 7 year old. You expect a bit more of a robust ego, and better impulse control from someone hoping to become the most powerful man on the planet. And the reason he hasn't caused deaths all over the place is because he's zero government experience - or responsibility. But he's destroyed plenty of lives with his underhanded dealings.

+Valdimaras Endriulaitis The mob doesn't reflect what's best for the people. The mob reflects what's best for lots of individuals, most of whom are too stupid and ill informed to really deserve consultation. A benevolent dictatorship is far better than the toxic democracy that Trump is fostering.

+Frank Roquemore I agree completely.
