There have been atheists since ancient Greece and probably a lot further back. It's nothing to do with accountability. Do you seriously believe that people would believe in a god and act as though pretending that he didn't exist would absolve them of judgement if he existed?! That's like closing your eye and believing a mugger can't hurt you. And so what if ancient cultures all believed in higher powers? Millions of people across the globe believe that the number 7 is lucky today. In an age before science, people tried to interpret events that they didn't understand, and instead of recognising that weather for instance, was the result of pressure changes and fronts, they gave agency to events. Obviously any being able to control weather or crops or life and death must be much bigger than them. It really isn't difficult to comprehend, just as it isn't difficult to comprehend why millions of people are leaving Christianity now that all those mysteries are understood.

Yes, because those areas were uplifted from below sea level by plate techtonics. It really isn't difficult to understand.

@ramigilneas9274 Well said.

@horseladyjane4321 "They're trying to disprove the Bible but they're helping build the case for it! " If that's the case, why are people leaving Christianity in their millions?

My condolences.

Why do fish die eating fish? Because sometimes fish take on dinner that is too big for them and they literally choke to death exactly as catfish do today. Or because they get caught in CO2 bubbles that kills them instantly, as happens today, Why are there fish on Everest? Because Everest was once below sea level, but has been uplifted by plate techtonics, as can been demonstrated with geology. Is it more logical that there was a flood or ice from space? Where did the flood water come from? Why do many (not all) cultures have flood myths, because almost everywhere inhabited by ancient humans are subject to intermittent flooding, and without the capacity to predict heavy rainfall, the danger was terrifying and past LOCALISED flood entered their culture. I can't be bothered to address any more of your wilfully ignorant "If you ignore well known facts, isn't it amazing" questions. For some who supposedly values honesty, I refuse to believe that you are this ignorant. You should be ashamed of yourself.

@CaptiveManAudience Okay, so some people are not well informed about arguments against the truth of the Bible, but millions are. Perhaps talk to some of them instead of low hanging fruit.

No, it absolutely does not. Science proves that a flood of the magnitude described in the flood is a physical impossibility, and the heat produced would have destroyed all life on Earth. It proves that the variety of animals on Earth today could not have occurred in the 6000 years since the flood supposedly happened. And most of all, just the sheer mechanics of getting the animals from every corner of the globe, feeding and cleaning them, all on a boat far too small for them, was physically impossible. Oh, and the ark could not possibly have been seaworthy. Science quite definitively DISPROVES the flood story, and many other tales from the Bible.

@sydney.g.sloangammagee8181 Science is not hiding live births in progress. There are numerous mechanisms that explain their existence. Local floods. Local land slides. Local CO2 releases. Poisonous water caused by algal blooms. Getting caught in mud or tarpits. Death during birth due to exhaustion or abnormalities in the mother. To name but a few. These are not hidden by science - in fact they are celebrated for the remarkable events they are.

Thankfully, Christianity is diminishing, even in America. You dominated for centuries, but in an age where information is easy to attain, it is less and less easy to get away with the the tales that are clearly not true. This global flood story is one of the easiest to debunk, yet Hancock acts as though it has not been utterly disproven in a thousand different ways. Why do you think Jesus should be respected by people who don't believe in his divinity? You say "Jesus will never abandon you" but that's not true is it? What's the one sin that cannot be forgiven? Matthew 12:31-32 So in fact, the very thing that you bemoan - people abandoning the faith, is EXACTLY the sin that Christ will NEVER forgive. Have you tried actually reading your Bible?
