I have serious issues with people being fireds for non-work-related matters unless it affects their ability to do the job, or the safety of staff or customers.

@oliver_twistor Yeah, this was an extreme example, but when you hear of people being fired simply for being Karens or making tasteless jokes, I really feel it's unreasonable. In the UK, we have strict employment laws and the employer would be straight in court.

@oliver_twistor Your employer pays for you 7 or 8 hours a day on the premises. They do NOT own your private life. So long as you conduct yourself according to their REASONABLE code of conduct during the time you are on the clock, what yo do in your private time, is entirely up to you. So some employees are uncomfortable with the mere knowledge that someone is a neo nazi - so what? I am uncomfortable with the knowledge someone is a muslim, christian, feminist, Trump voter, Jordan Peterson follower, or any number of things. That's a ME issue. Was it Stephen Fry who said "People tell me they're offended, and I respond "So what?" You don't have the right not to be offended." People's low threshhold for offence or discomfort is one of the great problems of modern society. Remember when we were taught "It takes all types [to make a society]?" Now we're taught "Only those I approve of."
