This all sounds very inspirational in principle for those that have the intellectual and financial resources to accomplish it, but what about communities that are dirt poor, stupid as rocks, and spend each day struggling to eat? These are the people that need aid to lift them up so that they have the resorces to think bigger. When you live in a hut in Somalia, and walk miles for water, you're not waiting for this guy to show you how to sell sushi to the Japanese. You need a well or seeds.

And like I said, that's all very well if solutions are available, but if you live in a hut in the middle of a desert, or for that matter, your own government is so corrupt that all of these wonderful self-empowering options are meaningless, perhaps what you need is someone strong to step forwards, and take some positive action on your behalf at first. It's all very well figuring out you need to build a well, but without the tools or resources, that's nothing but a dream.
