The London and New York Times newspapers are aimed at the general population, but that doesn't mean that they're designed for consumption by the sort of people who thought Transformers was a good movie, and consider Big Brother to be entertainment. I would suggest that this presentation is aimed at those with somewhat greater than average intellectual capacity, as are all TED talks.

  3. Elworthy presumes to talk about things she knows little about. Try walking up to a knife-weilding mugger and gently pushing the blade aside, or using passive resistance against organised school bullying. Try using unarmed responses to deal with the animal scum of the Mexican drug cartels - see how far it gets you. Of course America's "might is right" approach to world politics is ineffective, even inflammatory, but that does not mean that there are not many times for violent response.

  4. Personally I found her very measured presentation (which seemed to be more about emotionalism than practical solutions) to be very interesting. It was not a populist presentation aimed at a sesationalist National Enquirer type audience, rather at those with the depth to consider her words.
