I found it very telling that he kept referring to his crimes in the third person "her throat was cut" rather than "I cut her throat" I wonder if that was because he feels guilt, or because if he is uncomfortable because he knows how the public will view him? I don't think he's devoid of emotion, but like he said, all he feels is hate and contempt. He should be executed for the benefit of society.

  2. I suspect that you are picking up on the coping strategies that such people have adopted in order to deal with being in a position of making life and death decisions. Use them long enough, and it becomes who you are. So in a sense, I think you're right - they HAVE become utterly dispassionate about life and death.
