Tracking down my biological father was both a good thing and a bad thing. Finding him, I realised what a bullet I had dodged by not having him in my life, and it also finally eased that itch. I'd sooner my mother had simply told me he had died when he was a baby, rather than living with the fantasy of him ever giving the slightest shit about me. Part of me thinks it's massively selfish to contact the child you abandoned. In giving your child up, you give away the right to ever be a part of their life. That's YOUR burden to carry.
