This is nonsenseical to me. The apparent weight has no effect on the actual weight, yet you were barely able to lift the weight before, even using an optimal grip. There was nothing apparent about that. This wasn't simply a matter of asymmetrical torque on your hand - there was a demonstrably greater force on your forearm AND biceps. I could see the bicep strain. This seems to be nothing to do with torque, as you explained it.
