  1. I'm in favour of trying to help those fleeing oppression in other countries, but it feels as though the immigrant community is disproportionately connected with such heinous crimes. Bombs at Ariane Grande concerts, innocent police attacked, knife crime, children sacrificed because they are "possessed," etc. I don't know if I'm just overly sensitive to skin colour in these situations, but it seems that people from certain cultural backgrounds bring their worst attitudes with them.

  2. Speaking from outside the US, I'm horrified that he's still even close. It's massively damning on the American public. I'm far from convinced that he will lose. This is not a time for smugness. If he wins, the whole planet will suffer.

  4. "What do MP's need to do to bring to bring people together rather than push them apart." Stop gaslighting everybody. Address the immigration problem in a meaningful way. Don't give taxpayer funds to people who have never paid a penny into the system. Also, I'll note that many immigrant communities CHOOSE to live isolationist lives. That's on them.

  8.  @FutureKnut  I'm aware of the concept of confirmation bias, but as I never had a pre-existing belief that a certain skin colour committed a lot of crime nor that the press actively underplayed or entirely suppressed news reports, I don't see how that applies in this situation

  12. Harris's comments on Israel were abhorrent. Where was the condemnation of the decades long attempt at genocide by Israel that PRECIPITATED HAMAS' actions? Where was the condemnation of Israel's attack on innocent civilians? Where was the condemnation of Israel's blatant theft of agreed upon Palestinian land? Where was the condemnation on Israel for imprisoning an entire nation? If all you do is look at the "terrorist" actions of HAMAS in isolation (freedom fighters are always portrayed as terrorists by the stronger side), then you build a totally warped view of events. The fact that she supports Israel is bad enough - the fact that she thinks America should throw its weight behind them, is appalling.

  16. I recall a yougov survey of British Muslims in 2005 just after the bombings in which 6% (100,000) of them said they fully supported the bombings. THAT attitude is why Muslims are rightly viewed with scepticism and outright hostility. Syed is right when he says that immigration and the far right is stoking this, but he's being just as disingenuous as the politicians when he pretends that our scepticism is unwarranted.

  23. The problem is, we depend upon experts to help us judge a case without witnesses, and the weight of probability is overstated. We need to start questioning the "experts" far more. I remember how the weight of forensics in everything from bullets, fingerprints, and DNA have been deliberately overstated by people with interests other than justice.
