I empathise with anyone's fear of the European culture being overwhelmed. but when people are willing to embark on what THEY call the "route of death" rather than stay in their own countries, it's clear that these are not international dole scroungers, rather they are people made so desperate, partly by OUR nations' actions, that they would rather risk that than stay where they are. This is a crisis that needs addressing compassionately, not cynically or with racism.

  3. +homer blair Yes, you certainly raise a great point. It's like American's who claim to be pro-life in the abortion debate, but the second the kids are born, they don't care what poverty or ill health they live in.

I think that once a coalition goes into these nations, we have a moral obligation to stay until order is resumed, especially when we play politics there. Others have mentioned in these threads helping to improve their quality of life at home through education and political pressure, and I think both are powerful - teach a man to fish and all that.But ultimately, if people flee to OUR nation because we made THEIRS unliveable, then we have a duty to help them. We HAVE been overgenerous in some cases, and inhuman in others.Perhaps transition camps where they live for a year, working to earn their food, and proving that they deserve to be part of British society, and a ban on using our social security until they have paid into it for 10 years.Their children receive ALL the help that they need.
