It sounds as though she was emotionally too frail for university. If she had chosen not to go, the world would not be wrapping her in cotton wool or handholding her. The loss of her life is tragic, but I'm not seeing how it was the university's fault in asking her to do exactly what they asked of everyone else.

The British suicide rate is 11.2 per hundred thousand people. Bristol uni has 30,000 students per year. That means that 14 suicides over 3 years is only a little above the average, and in a hormonal, emotional melting pot filled with academic pressure, it really is not that exceptional. Moreover, they're not all confirmed suicides. The deaths of young people is tragic, but C4 appears to be manufacturing a drama out of a sad normality in life.

@JohnDoe-tx8lq I have no problem looking out for them, but given that every one of them happened during the pandemic, I'd suggest unique circumstances. As you say though, look into the circumstances. I'm not a fan of universities being seen as surrogate parents. It's hard enough to hold the bastards accountable for the quality of the EDUCATIONAL and ADMINISTRATIVE services they provide without piling on additional responsibility. The fact that students are forced to live on campus the first year, given half a lifetime of debt, and have often severely substandard tutors is bad enough.

@JohnDoe-tx8lq Ah yes, thank you for the corrections. My bad. As for surrogate parents, I joined the army at the same age these people went to college. My sergent major didn't come around at night to tuck me in. He didn't ask if I was comfortable among a bunch of rowdy guys, or putting on a pair of boxing gloves, or talking in front of others. The whole western world vhas become dismally fragile, and it doesn't make better people; it makes people weaker, more whiney, and more dependent. Meanwhile, in the 3rd world, kids are already contributing to their families. Where's the personal responsibility? Where's the well balanced, robust personality? No, instead they attend schools where nobody can lose, forced to attend until 18 years old! Then they go to colleges and universities fearful of micro aggressions and scawy words. This is nothing to do with C4 - it's about the pitiful world that academics and politicians are building for us, and sadly, fragile kids like these are the result and the victims.
