2nd homes should be illegal all across Britain. In a nation with limited land and limited houses, rich bastards profiteering while others are so despearte is simply immoral.

@baggeeboy It's not envy at all - I don't begrudge people becoming wealthy and having nice things - they usually do so by sacrificing more than I would ever sacrifice. But as someone who worked in housing for a while, and as someone who cares about the majority, it's patently obvious that you cannot put hard limits on house building with green belt protection, council rebuild limitations, and other orders at one end, then allow the wealthy to control the market at the other. It's literally a return to land barons.

@Aminur48 Absolutely spot on. I love the quote that politicians should be afraid of the voters. They need to remember that they are there to represent the interests of the majority, not those with the most money.

@soraiya2065 I can't speak to the laws in other countries, but I know that there is PLENTY of land on the globe as a whole. The problem is, by and large, people need to live within proximity of where they work, and that increases the desirability AND necessity of land in urban areas - which the wealthy then buy and exploit. Britain also has laws that prevent building in ways that other nations don't. The average Briton was NEVER voluntarily part of the global land grab - it was the same arrogant, selfish, greedy bastards who own the land in Britain now, but even if that was NOT the case, two wrongs wouldn't make a right. I've offered repeated justification and rational, fact-based explanations for my opinions - so don't come at me flapping your hanky and acting upset by my righteous indignation. My explanations are totaly coherent, but you are just poisoniong the well because YOUR position is so weak. Frankly, your arguments have been so utterly flaccid, it's clear that you have no intelligent arguments to make. You're the kind of contrarian, pro-authoritarian, corporatist idiot who would argue in favour of police brutality. Don't waste my time with a response. You're dismissed.
