Nobody has a right to buy a home, and the last thing the nation needs is to have to bail out to banks that leant to people about to lose their jobs. Maybe this will bring housing prices down so when this is over, Danni will be able to buy her first home at a much more reasonable price.

@ruxiist 100% agree. It's CLEAR that manipulation of the market, starting with Thatcher's right to buy, has lead to a bad situation. I know we're in a capitalist society, but I would personally put a ban on the purchase of ANY second house. Homes are for living in, not profiteering off. The trouble is, it's one of the most dependable long term investments, and I don't know what else the average middle class person can inves in that's safe. Certainly not the stock market. Any thoughts?

@ruxiist Yes, everything you say makes sense, especially as our available land would be limited even without all the restrictions. Investement opportunity or not, if you can't get the initial loan, it takes that opportunity from the working class and hands it to the wealthy. ATM, rental prices are depressed too, but I guess if there is a loss of available houses to buy, that may change.

@marklasy6209 Meanwhile, working class people cannot get somewhere to live...

@marklasy6209 I said myself that owning a house is not a right, however, two people in moderate jobs SHOULD be able to afford a house, but people like you are buying more than they need as businesses. And renting is most certainly NOT always an option. The waiting list for council houses is infinite for single people and couples, with special needs people jumping to the head of the line. Private renting is ridiculously expensive but of course, you oppose rent controls. Even family homes are very hard to get the first time, and again, people like you only make it worse. Given that the majority of working class Brits are NOT home owners, why should we give a damn about how rent controls adversely affect the very housing barons whose ownership has pushed prices up and made affordable housing increasingly difficult. Houses should be for living in, not profiting off.

@maxgregor3201 "I would just make landlord tax so high that being a landlord would barely be worth it" Hear hear!

@marklasy6209 "if there’s no incentive to profit of housing investment and development of properties won’t happen" The stock market has conditioned people to expect a massive return on their investments, and that's exactly the kind of BS that is destroying the world. Moreover, it's unsustainable, and was exactly the fantasy thinking that contributed to the housing crash in 2008. How about building houses to LIVE in? No profit, just build a house, and live in it. Builders get to make a SMALL profit, but not this ridiculous situation. The best thing the government could do is build a million houses. Chop the legs out from all you property speculators, and ensure that ordinary peope live in houses at reasonable rents or mortgages. A huge crash is on the way. It would amuse me immensely to see you left with valueless property that nobody wants to rent but you are paying rates on.
