  1. No, the point is NOT that he wasn't their son. A 6 year old child or an old pereson with dementia can be controlled: a fully grown man in the grips of delusions cannot. The first thing ANY water rescue course teaches you is not to risk your life to save another. Of course the police didn't talk about the boy - it wasn't a "get to know" report, it was an inquest into police actions, and they knew taht they were fighting to prove their innocence. Rather than blaming the police, who are not paid to risk their lives because YOUR kid had a bad trip, how about looking at your son's actions? It's tragic that this youngster died, but the police didn't make him take drugs, allow him out of the house or push him into the river.
