Comments by "Mat Broomfield" (@matbroomfield) on "CEO sacks 800 staff from P&O Ferries in video call" video.
Sacking them because their jobs no longer exist, is one thing, but sacking them to replace them with cheaper labour is illegal. They're going to get deservedly destroyed in court. <snip - just in> "P&O Ferries boss Peter Hebblethwaite has admitted to MPs that a decision to sack 800 workers last week without notice broke the law. He said there was "absolutely no doubt" that under UK employment law the firm was required to consult unions before making the mass cuts. However, he said no union would have accepted the plan and it was easier to compensate workers "in full" instead. The P&O boss also said he would make the same decision again if he had to."

@vanquishable7844 Law must have changed then, because when my partner was a director at one of England's larger property developers 10 years ago, every single person she fired, she had to make out a case report explaining why their job was no longer available OR they were not suitable for it in case they were sued for wrongful dismissal. Still, I'm sure with your extensive training in employment law, you know better right?

@christopherellis2663 UK still has its own employment law.

@vinylrulesok8470 You may be correct. I'm not that familiar with the laws. 10 years ago, if they were hired by a UK company, they could not have done this, although someone above said they were not even hired by a UK company so UK law would not apply at all.

@lucius1976 Yup, but the trouble is, the old and the ignorant have ALWAYS voted for their abusers who exploit their fears.

@Mrpublicimagelimited As long as I remember this and have a choice, I'll never use their services again.
