All the tough guys and racists below saying "it's only words". Imagine your mothers or sisters or kids or little brothers or sisters walking down the street and having to face that from total strangers. And how do they know it will stick at "only words" and not become actual violence? You all need to think outside your smug little bubbles and learn some empathy.

Oh do fuck off. When people are actively threatening people in public and posting hate mail through their letterboxes, that goes WAY beyond offence, and frankly why should innocent people who have done nothing having to tolerate abuse in the first place? If you think 6000 inceidents in just over a month constitutes "a few" any chance you could give me a few quid?

I agree completely. The media in general is definitely working to suppress the extent of the Muslim issue in the UK. I'm sure that many Muslims are perfectly lovely, and MOST would never do anything violent, but there's a VERY significant minority that sympathise with or directly support violence against the west, and that's a reality that needs discussing. I fear that nobody has any reasonable answers so they're terrified of discussing it at all.

I realise Americans are rude, aggressive louts, especially in New York, but this crap is not normal in the UK because we're more civilised and not over-compensating for our desperate insecurity.

America is not the wealthiest, and whilst you may be militarily the most powerful, that's not something to be proud of. You've sacrificed education, healthcare, infrastructure, public safety, and basic humanity to attain military superiority against ghost enemies. Frankly you are scarred by the fact that Britain ran you 241+ years ago. You don't see Britain still pointing its guns at France, Italy or Denmark. You need to get over it and move on with your lives. As for "faux civility" we're not the nation that calls everyone "sir" and "ma'am" whilst being eager to fight at the drop of a hat, you are. That's because we have nothing to prove.

To answer the question you deleted, yes I have been on the receiving of the kind of racist abuse you asked about. It made my childhood miserable, and only stopped when I got big enough for it to be dangerous for the bullies to keep using it. These people are vermin, pure and simple. Criticism of her work is one thing, vicious personal attacks are another entirely.

What have immigrants done to improve Britain? Well people from all over the Caribbean were invited here during a massive labour shortage in the 1940s, so they saved Britain from economic and infrastructure collapse. Africans are currently a major source of low paid nurses and geriatric care workers so our National Health system depends upon them. People from Asia fought on our side in both world wars. Poles are a very polite and hard working source of menial labour in my town. And this particular gentleman runs a restaurant catering to people in the local area. Add to that maths, which came from Greece, our system of numbers which came from the Middle East, astronomy, also from the middle east, and I think it's impossible to suggest that foreigners have not made major contributions to British life. And if by "improving their lands", you mean creating civil wars that have cost over a million lives (Iraq and Syria), stealing their resources (Africa), and causing political instability (half the world), then you have a strange idea of improvement. BUT, I'll certainly grant you that unrestricted immigration, especially from Islamic nations that don't share our cultural values is not desirable. But don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
