Given that regular children were fending for themselves and dying of starvation on the streets of London up until the early 1900s, Peter's fate was almost certainly better than many kids who lacked the mysterious backstory to ensure their welfare.

Why should age exempt him from punishment? Appalling.

The utterly tedious, claustrophobic judgementalism of Victorian society was sickening.

The way America treats its inmates (except the wealthy) is abysmal, bordering on sadistic. Largest number of incarcerations on the planet. That's what happens when you commercialise it, and add "Christian" morals.

According to my grandmother, her grandmother murdered her 4 year old daughter and got away with it. She battered the child to death in a fit of rage, and the local doctor in Merthyr Tydfell, Wales, covered it up by forging the death certificate. I wonder how many other monsters got away with murder?

You have only her family's word for everything he supposedly did.

A particularly evil means of ending someone's life. What a vicious species we are. We're never going to make it.

More proof that with a good lawyer, you can literally get away with premeditated murder. Epilepsy didn't make her take the knife. Epilepsy didn't make her look at his bank account and select him. And you have only her and her family's word on all the bad things he supposedly did, which would be unsubstantiated hearsay and seriously tainted in any modern court. Disgraceful.

This story gets more and more embellished every time I hear it. The idea that hundreds of people across the south of England all collaborated to check the tracks, compare stories and feed them into the central news repository of the day, and all without adding their own elaborations is too preposterous to be credible. A couple of storks walked over a few fields, and it got blown up into this.

Sorry to disappoint, but I've never used the phrase "Well I never" in my life.

@lordeden2732 They've changed massively, but poverty is a growing problem again.

His weight wasn't "impressive" it was sickening. He was a monument to gluttony, lack of self control, and laziness. That a man should die at just 39 because his heart cannot support the mountain of flesh that he has become is appalling.
