This is nonsense. 4.5% of prisoners in the US report being raped in the past YEAR, and up to 50% of juveniles according to one study is sexually assaulted BY GUARDS. 200,000 inmates were sexually assaulted in 2011. And guards DO have all the power. They may be on low wages, but they can make inmates' lives miserable if they so desire, and yet again, nowhere is this more pronounced than in the juvenile penal system.

  2. I was gutted by the deaths of Heath Ledger, River Phoenix and Anton Yelchin. None of these people are any more important tahn any of of but their deaths give us an uncomfortable reminder that everybody is mortal.

  13. I don't mind extensive DLC like you get with Fallout or Skyrim, but paying for mounts, and armour and even additional characters like ESO and Borderlands just feels cynical and exploitative. And if they exploit the customers, why shouldn't the customers return the favour? Then they get angry at piracy...

  15. Do we know that child stars go crazy at any higher rate than normal kids? We certainly get to hear about it more, but there are millions of barking mad adults in America today. I realise that stardom brings horrible pressures, and the come down can also been hard for those who don't continue into adulthood (just ask Corey Haim and Jonathan Brandis), but being a youth in America is incredibly hard for many anyway.

  19. Without piracy ALL the cards are in the developers' hands. You can't take a bad game back to the store. You can't try before you buy. Even if it's bugged TF, you're stuck with it. You have no idea how long servers will be supported, or if games will continue to work on the next version of your operating system. And nowadays "early release" is being used as a business model for getting all the funds up front with none of the time pressure or obligation to ever finish a game. And absolutely worst of all (No Man's Sky), devs can blatantly lie through their teeth about functionality that doesn't even exist in the game on their promotional tour.

  26. Joanna Newsome sounds exactly like Kate Bush. I felt that at least two of these artists have fairly ordinary voices, but have a unique musical style. Jonsi Birgisson is a billion times more unique than Michael Jackson for instance.

  41. It's easy to reinterpret everything into a narrative of hate after the fact. I didn't think his carpool karaokes were bad or insincere. The one with Paul McCartney made me laugh with joy when they put on the concert in the pub. Corden was really sailing high just before covid, but lockdown broke him. He thrived on adulation, and 1 year without it really harmed his mental health (although paradoxically it did wonders for the band, who were always the real stars). When he returned, everything had to be about him all the time, and he lost that charm and silliness that attracted me to the show. The spat with Patrick was low, but there WERE two sides to that. I was more surprised that Patrick stopped to that level. James had a moment, but like Elon, his ego and his desire to be adored got the better of him. I don't know about quitting the late late show to be with his family - he said it was because he wanted to explore greater opportunities. How's that worked out James? Destroyed dozen of careers for what?!
