  1. Never underestimate the willingness of ultra-leftist governments to spend billions of other people's money on projects whose immediate benefits are unproven. The PR benefits are a factor beyond the mere superficial profitability of such technology. I suspect that the explosion of artificial intelliegece, both in design and control of such systems also has the potential to be assist them greatly. This planet needs innovative solutions, and whether it comes now or in 1000 years, there come a point where ANY cost is acceptable compared to the alternative.
