  1. Nonsense. Suits at work were the imposition of old world conformist values on the proleteriate by the employers. They were not optional. Their decline was a sign of the rebellion against such rigid conformity and the stiff necked attitudes that went with it. Wearing suits socially are a totally different matter, and their decline signified perhaps a rejection of the same rigidity that forced women to wear corsets and put on make up to go to the shops. A Ralph Lauren suit is not what the averge person wore on the street or at work, and even before Lauren, most people were not wearing tailored suits as fashion items, but simply functional suits that represented their acuiescence to societal norms.
