@ArjunGupta-tz5xo The gold standard was ridiculous. Tying to currency to a very finite resource gives all the value to the person holding the resource. Gold is expensive now, even when the whole planet doesn't depend upon it. It would be a million times more expensive if the pound was tied to it. That's why owning bullion is illegal.

@leehenry5764 "Welcome to socialism" It's the polar opposite of socialism. It's the application of capitalist market forces; possibly toxic and corrupt market forces. Socialism would be controlling the price or making everybody else pay for it.
